Munising Ice Conditions Question

This question is mostly for Scott Mitchell, but I don't have any way of contacting him directly.

I'm heading up to Pictured Rocks this weekend and was wondering what the ice conditions are like. I know that the lake ice has basically disappeared except in the bay but I'm wondering if the ice shelf that forms along the beaches and some cliffs might have survived this warm weather.

Based on hikes in previous years, I know that a pretty sturdy ice shelf usually forms in the area from Twelvemile Beach to Spray Falls and that the guy attempting to cross Lake Superior was able to hike on the ice shelf in this area two weeks ago. However, I'm not sure how quickly the ice shelf deteriorates in warm weather like we have been having lately.

Do you have any idea?

Thanks for any info.

Lars, I just talked to my neighbor a few minutes ago. He has been fishing in the Mosquito area. The ice condition is failing fast and the bergs are falling apart. He said that the bergs extend out to less than 100 hundred feet from shore.
Munising Bay is still locked with ice but ice is all gone beyond Sand Point.

Thanks Scott, I was afraid that would be the case.
