The idea is to hit Crater Lake at some point next week, after the next storm front.
The problem is that I have found it to be just out of my regular storm trakking range and I really don't want to get caught out by a blizard up on the rim.
Does anyone have any good weather resourses for th area? webcams? online radar?
I know the rim drive and North enterance is usually closed this time of year. So is the lodge. I'm not sure this is the best time to visit unless you plan on doing quite alot of snow shoeing.
Hi Erik, the plan is to snowshoe. I will arrive from the south, check in at the park headquarters and drive to the rim (I called to see if it is open) park and snowshoe to the west, camp someplace between the Watchman and Discovery point and spend 2 or 3 nights there.
My main worry is getting caught out by a storm while camped high in the snow!!!
The thing about Oregon is the unpredictable weather. It doesn't fail, when ever I wash my car, I always check the weather. If there is no rain in sight, %90 of the time it will rain within twelve hours . I'm a weather geek and follow the computer models real close and it's still hard to predict certain weather patterns. What I'm trying to say is you should be WELL prepared. Here is the link to the NWS in that area. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mfr/
It looks like the break between storms is not as long as I hoped for so I'll try again some other time... no need to make it in to the evening news ;-)
