For those of you that have been to Yosemite in the last week or so, I am wondering whether or not the redbud within the Merced River Canyon has begun to blossom??
I have been back and forth to the bay area a few times in the past week and have noticed what I am sure is redbud along I-80 in blossom and am wondering how close we might be to such a blossom occuring in the canyon. Last year I was in Yosemite the first week of May and the blossoms were about gone...so, would like to catch some in blossom this year.
The Redbud is starting to bloom here in the foothills (Sonora-Columbia). I would imagine that you would find some in the Merced Canyon below about 3000 feet, as well.
How's the 4x5 kit coming along? Have you made the plunge?
Hey, Preston -- Was hoping you might have a report for me...sounds like a week or so from your comments. Hopefully, i can make it that way in the time period...thanks!
Am sending you an e-mail message on the 4x5 plunge...

Bishop,
Here's a quote posted by Michael Frye on the CalPhoto Yahoo group:
"Merced Canyon flowers
The poppies are popping in the Merced River canyon west of Yosemite
(along HIghway 140 near El Portal). Within the last few days they've
really come out. I saw some nice patches along south-facing slopes,
and heard a report that the Hite's Cove trail is very good right now.
Redbud are starting to blossom, but aren't fully out yet. I expect
they will be in full bloom soon - maybe within a few days.

There's also the CalPhoto website with hotsheets for both wildflowers and fall color. You may already know about these.

I hope to get up to the canyon in the next couple of weeks and hope I'm not too late.
