Shrouded in Mystery
Hello All,

This is my first photo posting to this forum. I'm in the process of adding photos to my member portfolio, and I have an image I'm on the fence about. This is actually a photograph from Hawaii on the Big Island during some inclement weather. It's different than most of my photographs, which I kind of like, but this also doesn't have the typical tropical feel. Does this work for anyone enough I should include it in my online portfolio? Comments welcome.

I actually really like this. I don't know what it is, but there is something lacking. Perhaps a bit more ooomph in the sky. Or the lack of contrast, im not sure. Overall though, a pleasing image. And Welcome to the community!

I like it, but if it were mine I would be tempted to crop about 20% from the bottom. The colors are very pleasing. Welcome to RMNP. :wavey:

Thanks for the comments. Jon, I think it is the simplicity of the image that imparts that feeling that something is lacking. I took this photograph during a short dry period during a rainstorm, so there wasn't any detail or contrast at all in the sky. I also looked at cropping it, but I still think the foreground grasses look best taking up the bottom third of the image as it give a better sense of depth. Still, I find this photo growing on me due to its simplicity.

The photographs from this area on the next day are much better, which I have already put in my online portfolio. While it was sunny out, there were some intermittent clouds and something different in the air that made the greens the most intense I have ever seen and photographed. I've added one of the photos from the following day.
