Durango area
I'm making a quick and unplanned trip to Durango and hope to have some time free time mid-day monday and Tuesday morning. Any suggestions about places to visit with photographic potential are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You'll need a really, really long telephoto lens to capture this scene from Durango! Flattening the curvature of the Earth will help, too.

You're not going to be able to get up into the mountains unless you ski or snowshoe, but you could definitely drive Highway-550 from Durango to Silverton and find lots of roadside photo ops. Just over the N side of Coal Bank Pass is a nice view of N. Twilight Peak in the West Needle Mtns., and there are great views of Snowdon Peak and the Grenadiers as you head up towards Molas Divide. If you keep going past Silverton and on to Ouray, another 8 miles takes you to Ridgway, from where you can hang a left and head up to Dallas Divide. I noticed on the Montrose webcam that the Sneffels Range is getting pretty good sidelight at sunrise and sunset.

The trip to Durango turned into 2 1/2 days of steady work with out the expected time to photograph. The good news is that it looks like I'll be going back in a couple of weeks and hope to get some free time then. I'll check out your suggestions then!

You are right about the photo...it was from a similar quick trip to Steamboat Springs last summer. The difference was that I was able to take a full day for hiking and photography plus a couple of hours the next morning before leaving for home. The photo was taken of Fish Creek Falls early in the morning.
