Lightroom problem

As a previous (still) RSP owner I received Lightroom for free. I loaded it and now every time I insert a card into my reader to download RAW files to my computer, Lightroom automatically launches instead of the familiar window I'm used to that just wants to know how I want to view the disc (ie: open in a MS window). I always download by opening a MS window to view my CF card like any other drive and simply drag and drop to the destination folder. Now I must minimize LR and go exploring for the CF disc. I finally figured out how to turn off the "Auto-Import" feature in LR but I don't want any SW to auto launch! I prefer for my SW packages to patiently wait until I summon them

Any help?

Mike: I am not usually one of the ones with answers here, but I can answer this one--I had the same annoyance. Open up Lightroom and make sure you are in the Library Module. Click on files, preferences and at the top of the box is a drop down. Make sure it says when LR opens "do nothing" Its pretty intuitive.

What is also an annoyance for me is that when I installed LR, it install somewhere (probably in the Windows registry) a program called Adobe Photo Downloader. I cannot find anywere how to turn that off or take it out of my startup files. Any help with that would be appreciated. I use DOT4 USB printer ports in two different offices and the downloader interferes with them for some reason.

Thanks so much for your response.

The setting you have described is the one I had already made to prevent the automatic import window from opening. The computer still launches LR any time I plug in a device with any type of image file (RAW on a CF card, jump drive with JPEG's, etc) on it. It seems that installing LR causes the computer to be set so LR becomes the default SW for all image tasks. I want to disable that feature.

HELP!

Mike,
If you're using XP then try Start>Run, type in msconfig in the run window and click OK.
Click on the Startup tab. Go thru the list and you will probably see an entry or two for Adobe
Lightroom or Adobe Download manager (I dont use them myself) untick them, click OK, restart
the PC and see what you get.

Strange. It worked fine for me. I am running Win XP professional. I Tried Andy Mason's suggestion and didn't find anything in the startup tab that looks like Adobe Photo Downloader, or Lightroom.

Adobe Photo Downloader was active in my taskbar. I disabled it and, voila, problem solved. Thanks to a fine lady on another board for the tip.
