I was just wondering about what time the yellow Arrowlead Balsamroot come out and where in the Gorge this is good for photographing.
Thanks for any advice you can give me

Last year wasn't a banner year for flowers in the Gorge but I just looked at the date on one of my photos and it was 5/15/06. There was Lupine in the photo so I'm sure the Balsamroot had been out for at least three weeks before that.

Thank you Marc that helps ! I guess the lupine comes out a few weeks after the Balsamroot

Yes, It's a good year when the Balsamroot is still in good shape by the time the Lupine shows up. If you're really lucky, you'll find a patch that includes Indian Paintbrush as well.

I was out there today for a mid-afternoon hike. There are lots of these little delicate purple flowers that are very thick in patches. It was not good like to photography so I didn't take any shots but walked my dogs instead. Big mistake since I have picked 6 ticks off from them so far and pulled out 2 that were alreay embedded in their skin. Next time, sunrise and no dogs !!

Oh, in the shade on the Tom McCall point trail, I saw a good number of yellow flowers that I think were colombines.... really beautiful.
