I am heading to Moab this weekend for a little road trip. I plan on doing Mesa Arch Saturday morning and spending the rest of the day hiking. I will not be able to do a sunset on this trip, but am looking for some suggestions for a Sunday morning location. I am thinking Dead Horse Point, but am open for suggestions. Thanks in advance. :wavey:

Brad:

I tried responding to your email three times and it bounced back to me as undeliverable each time. Send me another email if you're still interested.

See Grant and Bret's advice in this thread for some good tips.

Brad, I'm sure Bret will have already mentioned this stuff in his e-mail, but I'll post anyway!

Of course, Dead Horse Point can be an awesome sunrise, highly recommended.

One of my favorite spots out that way would be Courthouse Towers in Arches NP. Easy to get to , and spectacular! Especially if there has been recent rain and you can find a pothole for some reflections (sadly, I never have  )

Another cool spot, and off the beaten path so to speak, is a place called Determination Towers. It’s northwest of Moab, directly north of Monitor and Merrimac Buttes and Highway 313 that goes to Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. The roads out there aren’t too bad, but can be sandy, so use caution. Great spot to camp out there too if you like. We camped about 50 yards from the spot I shot this image. Have fun this weekend!!!

Here is a general map of the area (not sure if those trails marked here are strictly mountain bike, or the main roads): http://www.moab-utah.com/trails/bikemap.html

Also, here is a Google Maps version. Zoom out to see the relation to where it is from Moab: Google Map

Wanted to say thank you for all your suggestions. It ended up raining in Moab on Saturday so Mesa Arch was not quite what it should be, but still got some interesting photos. Sunday was much better with some puddles to do reflections of the Organ and Three Gossips.

If you would like to take a look:

I love your pre-dawn photo of Mesa Arch. It's a unique take and a great recovery given the weather, though perhaps just a tad darker than I'd do it. Some good cloud/puddle reflections, too.

Dude! Nice work!

Unique take on Mesa Arch - I'm totally groovin' on that one! Mesa Arch with cool colors instead of the usual warm tones... Who 'da thunk it? Nice job turning lemons into lemonade on that one.

I also really enjoy the Turret Arch pic with your wife echoing the form of the tree in the darkness directly below her. Presenting this in B+W does a nice job of contrasting the highly textured sandstone with the cloudless sky as well.

Very interesting shots - thanks for sharing!

Brad - I've tried a few times to check out your images. All I get is a Zoto banner at the top, but no photos. I'm using the latest netscape...

Looking forward to seeing your shots!
