I was out shooting tues. night as a storm was doing it's thing. Got lucky and I happened to turn to my right as I was finishing up a comp and saw this. Knowing it wouldn't last long, and it didn't, I quickly improvised a comp. How'd I do? Does the color, tones, saturation, etc. work for you or does it feel a bit off? Thanks in advance!

canon 5d, 24-105, f11@ 2.5secs, using canon's DPP & PS2

I like this landscape with the mountain on fire, and the way the gate is placed. Very westerny. I was re-listening to the best of Ennio Morricone last night and that would fit in the mindset :). The trees and sky's darkness feels a little heavy but it could be the screen I'm using now.

Cory,

Very nice image. My eyes moves from left to right and sets on those golden light on mountain.

Is it a crop or did you stitch panorama?

Cory, you just got to love this Owens/Round Valley look here. I suspect this is a look back towards the White Mountains from this angle? I find my accuracy for focus calls these days is not much, but the image looks great to me with that exclusion, again, my eyes I'm sure of it.

the light on the mountain really makes this shot, it gives it a focl point and keeps you there.

Subrata: I forgot to mention, this is cropped from the original. I didn't have time to change to my longer lens. So I knew I would have to crop this from the get-go. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

Paul: Glad you brought that up. This is viewing a portion of Round Valley, the Tablelands, and the White mtn's which are illuminated.

Thanks again for your comments everyone!

This looks nice in this size. I'd love to see it larger.

Cory,

I think you did good.

I love the composition here, Cory. Given my background in painting, I can appreciate how it tells a story. The spot light effect on the mountain is amazing. Very well done!

I would love to see this full size! Absolutely love the light in the background! Wish I was there - it would be a great addition to my portfolio! hahahahahah

Thanks for your comments everyone! It was one of those times where just being in the right place at the right time really paid off, as well as a bit of luck! I wish I could've opened that gate and swung it towards the "light". I think that really would've put the icing on the cake with this. I'm definitely printing this one large.

Color/tone/contrasts all look good to me. Now THAT'S the light the Sierra is famous for. Nice work with the complimentary foreground elements in what I'm sure must have only been a few moments to set up.
