When is Adobe going to release the v2 of LR? I say this as a frustrated previous RSP user.
With the take over of RSP by adobe and a year of beta versions i am frustrated that adobe has missed the oportunity to incorporate ALL of the amazing interface utilities from RSP.
I appreciate the new curves idea but also enjoyed the spot point freedom on RSP.
I like that we can take vertual copies, but why not have them with each other in the develop mode as in RSP. Just adding them to the film strip clutters things, rather than having all the versions within one click of each other at the top of the photo. I always liked having the raw image as the 1st and making the development the 2nd, 3rd, 4th image, allowing multi version of the same image, with only the selected image appearing in the strip.
RSP has a pretty good detail section with sharpening and detail extraction. i found this an incredible tool. Where is it? The 3 different noise suppresion tools in RSP were also good. I am afraid that this section in LR is poor. i don't see results i saw in RSP.
The zoom tool on RSP allowed and small blown up image as you scrolled over the photo, where one did not have to look at the small navagator to see whuch art of the photo u were scrolling over.
I appreciate Adobe effort to make this a true database and the much improved developing tools. I look forward to the next version to see if adobe has the guts to also start incorporating more photoshop tools within this workflow.
Hi Brad, I'm not familiar with RSP, but I do think you should suggest your "feature requests" on Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom user forum at http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc2cf0a/. I know there are some things I'd like to see improve in Lightroom, so I guess we both should be on that site!
Yes Raw s Shooter Premium was a independant raw conversion program developed by Pixmantic. It is essentially what you see in lightroom in the library, development, and slide show modes.
Adobe aquired RSP in 2006 because of its popularity with photographers and its potential threat to photoshop.
Adobe has successfully expanded the library database mode to what you see in LR. The develop mode is much the same except LR has individual color adjustments for hue, sat with the new lumin. One of the best color functions is vibrance, which was pixmantics brainchild. unfortunately , adobe did not include all workflow factors from RSP.
Should be nice to see the next version some time 2008/9
I hope it doesn't take too long for LR version 1.1 or what ever. I find the Library and Import functions to be flawed. If I import a file that contains both RAW files as well as TIFF files processed from the original RAW LR doesn't always import the TIFF. It doesn't matter if I check the "avoid duplicates" box or not. It is an apparently known bug that to my mind and that of others a glitch that inhibits us getting the full benefit of the Import function and Library.
There are a few work arounds. However, I just don't want to spend the time on work arounds. I will use LR for the RAW converter function but not the Library until this issue is fixed.
If anyone has a solution to this prob please let me know.
After you import the photos and have sorted them you flag them for removal, but that only removes them from the library not the hard drive. So, if you really want to discard of heavy 10-15mb files off your hard drive perminantly how does one do it. It seems that using the finder, metadata brousers highlights all the files you have, including the ones marked for removal, but each time i try to bring up the photos marked for removal they are not there even though LR tells by the number of files there are, that they are there!!. So, with no way of perminantly deleting these files, unless you physically go into "my pictures" and have the exact file number/name to scroll thru the thousands of pics...dumb.
i might have missed something, and if i have i am sorry for this ranting.

I have found that many of the features of Lightroom are not self evident. Since none
of the 3rd party books are out yet, the best place to find some missing clues is
Luminous-Landscape downloadable tutorial. It costs $15. I got my moneys worth.
