I've tried a couple of card readers for CF's and with both I have a difficult time getting the CF in straight. This is no exageration but at least 90% of the time the card goes in crooked and has to be withdrawn and reinserted. It usually takes at least ten tries to get it in straight. I've used a SanDisk multi-card reader and something I can't because it fell victim to a hissy-fit. Does anyone make a CF reader that you can easily use?

I just purchased and connected a card reader, brand "Transcend". It was recommended to me by a knowledgeable clerk at my local lab. I didn't have any trouble getting the card in easily. Good luck with your search.

I use a Delkin Cardbus CF adapter with my laptop and have been pleased with its performance. I'm about to buy the Lexar firewire CF card reader for my desktop after several good recommendations. The built-in reader in my desktop is sloooooow.
Is it the reader or is it you? In my case it was me. Are you, by chance, using a reader designed to accept either CF format? My reader take both CF I and CF II in the "same" slot. I found that I must be very careful in how I insert (my only type II) cards or they don't seat properly. In accomodating two formats it because less than fool proof. I was convinced that my reader had failed, so I called the manufacturer. They said they didn't repair them (it is built into an external hard drive, that's why I asked), but they did tell me to take care in putting the card in just so.
I too use the sandisk reader and have been very pleased with it's ease of use and speed.

"I use a sandisk 2.0usb card reader, its small fast and easy to use
here's some more info on it http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1197)-SanDisk_20_USB_Readers.aspx"
Make that three of us. It costs about $20 from B/H and seems pretty fast. I wish it had the USB connector built into it instead of running through a cord, as I use it on a laptop, but I don't find many CF card readers built that way anymore.
I used to use one of these http://www.flash-memory-store.com/dazziocomrea.html but it was slower than dirt.
