Hi to all,
I know this question isn't strictly nature photography based but I was wondering if anyone here uses sat-nav in their daily lives , for work or to help find photography locations , my sense of direction isn't very good and I'm considering buying one , any recommendations would help narrow the field.
Kind regards
Andy...

I use the navman pin570i all the time. Its a pda unit so Ihave also loaded the RSPB bird guide, tide tables etc etc etc, Very useful for getting around the more out of the way places

I have 2 Satnavs. A cheap and basic Navman F20, halfords for £130. Although basic it works very well. Can recommend it. i also have a more expensive and more verstaile Mio Mitec 700. I have used both quite a lot and would recommend both and if basic and good navigation is all you want, go for the Navman F20

I nearly posted a very similar question last week! I've just this week purchased a Garmin C510 after several good recommendations, and very impressed with it I am too! Living on the small island of Guernsey I obviously won't be using it here but I bought it mainly for my intended frequent trips over to the mainland for bird & wildlife photography breaks. I like the Garmin as (and I'm sure most makes will do this) I can simply hit a button to save favourite locations for future visits.
What I'd ideally like to do is load it up with various RSPB sites, hides etc etc. Maybe we could have a sticky thread where members could share reference points for such places?
Yes the Tomtom not only do I have the Great Britain maps with postcodes speed cameras but I also have the complete Europe maps and they have just updated with postcodes and speed cameras or should I say safety cameras.

Speed Cameras? we don't have speed cameras in the UK only safety cameras.
Hardly ever use the one built into my car anymore, they changed the one way system in my home town and it kept telling me I was going the wrong way down a one way street ...
Once got caught by a speed/safety camera a short distance from my house... however car and myself were in north Wales at the time , turned out to be a mistake by whom or whatever reads the plates.
I found it to be useful if I had the map reference for a location, in normal use I use a hand help Garmin GPS which is useful when in the field for relocating specimens, our field work has the GPS data added to the file.
Another vote for the TOM TOM - the safety camera alerts are a good reminder to keep your eyes on the road and off the wildlife...

I recently got a TOM TOM for driving in the uk and i find it really good. The TOMTOM One goes on amazon for £160 and u can get all sorts of maps etc online for next to nothing (look around!). For geo-caching and hiking and scouting for birds, i used to use a 60CSX Garmin in Singapore. Its a really sturdy model with a shock proof shell and is waterproof as well so its good for use in the field. the garmins are pricey though!

I use a tom tom 700, which also has Europe Maps.
I`ve also downloaded all the speed camera data, which is extremly usefull! I take it with me on almost every trip I make.
I can`t reconmend it enough.
BTW I didn`t know you were a fellow member of WAB.

SNAP Great bit of cheap kit although.......annoying when close to home!!!
