Frosty Flatirons
I am working on my Escalante images, so I will eventually be posting something that's not of the Flatirons... But, until then, here's a frosty shot I grabbed on the way to work yesterday.

There wasn't a McDonald's parking lot anywhere nearby, so I had to settle for a pullout on Hwy 93.

Rick,

The play of light adds something nice to this photo. The photo looks just a tad light to me with the highlights just a little too bright. I think a just a little darkening and more contrast will make the light and the sky more dramatic. Nice image.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you got down in Escalante.

Arby's works, too.

Hey Rick, I drove by here yesterday at about 9:30 and the clouds had moved back in. I took a brief side trip up Canyon in hopes of catching Boulder Falls foggy and frosty, but the clouds were only centered on the Flatirons, so I turned around. Glad to see you got some great light before things turned to sh*t. I love, love, LOVE those clouds!

Classic, understated, atmospheric, lovely.

Thanks fellas! Steve - thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to check the histogram. The highlights look pretty good on my LCD - right at the edge, but still in control. I agree that some contrast adjustment could help, especially at the base off the Flatirons. There's a thin veil of cloud/fog moving through right there, flattening the light in that area. I did do some selective dodging and levels adjustment in the sky to make the clouds 'pop' a little more, but found that creating bright highlights in the clouds mitigated the impact of the highlights in the hills, so I backed off a little.

Todd - I should've known you were nearby. No joking - as I'm driving west on 128 out to this spot, I was thinking "these look like Caudle Clouds". Thanks for sharing!

I've noticed on my way to work the great sunrises after the recent snow. Glad someone was out there making the best of things. I like this a lot, Rick. Capures the mood quite well!
