B&H has listed a price of $4495 for the Canon 1D Mark III body, about $500 higher than the reported price when the camera was first announced.
I'm disappointed   :frown:

I guess they expect the demand to outstrip the supply. I wonder how many have pre-ordered this camera. I haven't pre-ordered, but I did expect to buy one when they become available. Now I'm less eager.

I have preordered, at a quoted price of $4000, which is the price still showing on the website I ordered from. Almost all vendors are quoting $4500, however, and I expect I will end up paying the same....

I'm seriously considering ordering another copy of the ID MkII N for more than a thousand dollars in savings. It has been meeting my needs quite well for over a year now. I don't see $1100 in improvements in the MkIII. Oh, maybe I'm overlooking the "Live View" feature... I can see so many opportunities to hand hold my 500 f/4 and frame a shot with the massive 3" LCD screen...

What happened to the days when you bought your SLR and shot it for a decade or more?

The same thing that happened to when you bought a roll of film and shot for 24 frames.

I find that as much as I would like to own a MkIII...I just ain't got the money! Actually, the most compelling reason to me to buy the MkIII is being able to calibrate the critical autofocus to each lens you own. No more having to send the camera or lens back to Canon Service to have them calibrated. However, it's just not worth it for me to justify over $4,000.00 for a new camera body while my MkII still meets all my needs.

To me its a matter of waiting for the second line run to come out. I have been contemplating on retiring my old 10D which has been used for a while as a spare body and making the 1DMK2 I now use as a primary my back up. The MK3 seems to offer a quantum leap in image capture and processing, very low noise, along with the faster AF and frame rate. The extra 2 MP aren't bad, but not a deal maker.

Maybe by the time I actually order one the price will have come down a bit?
