spotted owl
I'm more of a "lurker" on this part of NPN, but I associate this species so much with the Pacific Northwest that I figured I would post this here. Is there a more controversial species in United States?
Dismal light made more lots of soft images. I couldn't even find good footing for my tripod. I was with a wildlife bioligist and a few other lucky birders for this encounter.
Canon 10D, 1-400mm IS, tripod, cable release, about 1/20 of a second @ 5.6. Slight crop.

Rare shot! I've never seen one. Outstanding image here, Dan. Congrats!

I've been here almost 6 years and would really like to catch one!

Only nit would be to try to lighten the rea around the eyes a bit.

An great catch of a rare bird indeed. My only nit would be the overly bright background - it isn't helping this image at all. And Michael is also correct on brightening the eye sockets a bit. But hey in all honesty if I were to ever get this close to a Spotted Owl I'd be far too excited to get a decent image!!!
