Hi,
Having dusted off the 180 macro it was time on saturday morning to give it a workout, whilst photographing some new plant shoots I noticed this emerging Cranefly, would have been ideal had I seen it earlier but it takes me about 2-3 weeks to train my eyes for the close up season.. didn't have a lot of time to get the shots before the fly had fully emerged, used a diffusion box round the subject to soften the light and to shelter it from the rather brisk gusts that were starting to build up.
Although I don't there was no chance to 'garden' around the subject so had to work fast to find a relatively uncluttered viewpoint, showing the subject off.....
Fascinating shot Phil, great colour and detail, really like the mini landscape as well. What wierd and wonderful heads they have.
I saw three species of butterflies yesterday, bug time is back for sure.
