I think a "how to use the NPN site" FAQ section is way overdue. I invite everyone to contribute to this new project with their own question and answer that can be used in the new section.

All FAQs should be geared for the use of the NPN forums, and the site in general. Here are a few "Q & A" examples;

Q - How do I stylize text and make links in my posts?
A - Use the Text Style Menu, a link to which is found to the left of the Message box.

Q - What is the "Flag" link that appears with all thumbnails in the IC galleries for?
A - The Flag link places that photo in a special folder for you to be able to find flagged photos easily. Use the "Flagged" link in the green navigation bar to access your folder.

Q- What is the "Flag Topic" link for that appears in the gray separator bars of all discussion threads for?
A - The same as above - to flag topics of conversation that are of interest by placing them in your Flagged Topics folder. Just like the IC galleries, your flagged topics folder is accessed via the "Flagged" link in the green navigation bar at the top of the page.

OK, now it's your tunr! Please feel free to submit your own "Q & A" for this important project!

Q - How do I find a listing of Weekly Challenge gallery topics?
A - Use the "WC Themes" text link at the top of the WC gallery thumbnail page.

Q - What are the specific steps I can use to prepare an image for uploading to NPN?
A - anyone want to take a stab at this? I can do it, but I somethings have strange ways of doing things.

Jim - I don't want to mess up this thread if it is supposed to the actual FAQ list. I have no problem with deleting this response if you are really looking to Qs with As.

Pete, I think that is an excellent question! It would be great if someone wrote a basic how-to article that the answer could link to. Any takers on that?

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for...anyway, this is my article about processing a photo for web display: Processing And Saving The Photos For Web

Jim,

In addition to the FAQ how about a glossary of photo terms & definitions.

Juza, that's a good article. I would suggest that an NPN FAQ you condense it to a very short list of steps and the order you take them. Then link to the article for people who want/need more than the short answer. It wasn't that long ago that I first tried posting and didn't even know which questions to ask. A short list might be enough to get some people through it more quickly. Not trying to make more work for you, just a suggestion.

I would suggest one Q & A entry to help people understand why they might not be getting very many comments. Perhaps something like this:

Q - Why doesn't my image get as many comments as others?
A - A few typical reasons for an image not receiving many comments are (1) nothing about it stands out as particularly good or bad, so there is nothing much to say about it either way, (2) it is posted on a less popular forum, such as the Off Topic gallery, so fewer people are viewing it, or (3) you haven't been leaving many comments on other photographers' work, so they're not bothering to take the time to comment on yours.

Also, I second Adam's suggestion. There are tons of glossaries out there, but every one I've seen is missing at least a few commonly used terms. I bet the NPN community could come up with the most useful photography glossary around. Maybe this should be a new thread for input?
