Hi y'all!

I know that it is not still photography, but if you are not watching the series Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel then you are missing out. The series has some of the best photography of our natural world that I have ever seen. It deserves watching at least once. Just the photography of the various birds of paradise in New Guinea is worth watching the entire series for.

I agree, it's a stunning series. The framing of the video images is very photographic in approach. Many times the video frame doesn't move, or moves very slowly. There is also an incredible variety of shots from aerials, using a chopper with a specially mounted camera under the front of it, to very tight telephoto shots showing only details of the animals, such as just the hoofs, or just part of the head.

The section on deserts has the most amazing time-lapse video images of saguaro flowers blooming at night complete with star movements, also images of bats feeding on the pollen of saguaro flowers at night, and even time-lapse photography showing saguaros expanding after a rain as they fill with water.... not easy to capture!

I think the filming took 5 years. I can barely imagine the patience necessary to film some of these sequences!

I watched and recorded the first 4 in the series. Now they seem to have repeats on. Do you know when the next round of new episodes will be aired?

I haven't missed an episode. I actually ordered the series to show to my science classes.

It is one of the amazing series I have seen and bought DVDs last year.

Prashan, How did you order it last year. Going through Discovery, my ship date is not until May :frown:

Definately looking forward to sitting down on weekend and watching this whole series when it comes in. Amazing work done in this!

It appears that they are releasing 2 hours each Sunday on Discovery and repeating during the week on Science channel. Also the PBS special on Elephants was on and it is filmed by one of the Planet Earth photographers and it was simply wonderful! In addition, last evening Science Channel aired the first of 3 parts on Planet Earth-the Future which is also very worth watching. I will probably order all of these DVDs for repeat viewing.
When they showed the series in UK last year who was the narrator? Someone with native British accent? Sigorney Weaver is narrating the US release.
