I'm looking at maybe using smugmug for my website. I know a few use it, Why did you choose it over other sites or building your won and hosting it. And if you use it which one do you use...Standard, Power or Professional....
I don't know much about smug mug, but I absolutely love my website host. Building my current site was ten times easier than anything I had tried before and I like my site ten times better.

I use SmugMug and I like it alot. I picked it because it was very easy to set up but can be cusomized. The site allows for full size images to be uploaded and will display anything from a thumbnail to oroginal size. I have the professional level subscription.

P.S. Marc Adamus uses it and his portfolio looks great -- of course.......
I chose Smugmug over other sites because of flexibility of what the site can become, price and name recognition. I haven't had time to really develop the site since I first chose it. However, I intend to use my own registered name as the website address instead of incorporating smugmug in the website url. I chose the middle priced option but may move up to professional option in order to set my own prices for some items that I want to sell through the site. I started out with Zenfolio because I thought it was so clean and crisp but ended up giving it to one of my children and signing up for smugmug. The zenfolio site was too limited, to my taste, in what you could do with it. For example I wanted to have have a page (eventually) where I had links to other sites and zenfolio couldn't really accommodate that very effectively. Some of the other sites like smugmug and zenfolio are really nice but too expensive for me.

Hi Keith,
I chose smugmug because I struggled for a year trying to set up my own site with css and dreamweaver. After searching the dgrin forums (smugmug forums) for a week I had essentially the website I have now - shopping cart, printing guarantee, limited customization (more if you know code). I'm a pro user because of my domain name - www.aninfinitejourney.com.
Do the trial first and see what you think - If you know code, have shopping cart/credit card know how and have your own print service then you might not have a need for smugmug...
I use Smugmug and I like it very much. I've only begun to do everything that I want and I need to make changes for the front page etc and other stuff but I find it very easy to download images. It's easy to navigate around for people to see your stuff and the price is very reasonable. I'm using the second version.
