I have had a request for the attached image which is to be used for public display. I must admit that this is a first for me and I am puzzled as to how much to ask for the image as a TIFF file on CD.
Any (polite) suggestions??
Many thanks
Phil
Size of Display, Duration of Display, do they want perpetual rights to display the image (given their investment in printing and frame) whenever in the future, is it to be displayed digitally or printed. can others also use the image when they are displaying it or do they want to restrict your sales of such an image until they have finished, is it advertising use, is your copyright to be seen on the image, is it part of a package or single purchase, do you expect repeat business or do you expect this to be a one off?
If it is to be used only in a frame for public display for a not-for-profit organisation then probably £100 or so would be reasonable. Considerably more if the organisation is commercial. Make absolutely clear what you are allowing them to use the image for. A photograph being bought for an advertising campaign via Alamy, for example, sells for £2000-£10,000 to give you a rough idea. Congratulations. Best wishes Peter
Great image Phil looks as though its well worth the money anyway as I'm Down under and showing ignorance what are they, looks like a pair of grebes to me but not sure.
Charles,
Charles, its the great crested grebe pairing ritual. Both birds dive down for a piece of weed, then tread water in front of each other whilst turning their heads from side to side - quite something to observe.
Best wishes
Phil
