IPOD as backup

On my last trip I took along the laptop to offload files from my CF cards. That is pretty much all I used the laptop for and it was a bit big and cumbersome to haul around.
Has anyone used an ipod to offload files on trips?
It sounds great to have your tunes and a place to put files other than the CF card. I know there are other reader/hard drives out there but the ipod has MANY other uses. It would be worth it to me to upgrade my nano to one of the big boys if this was feasible.
I noticed Apple has a camera connector and only a few 'tested' cameras so I don't know if the 5D will work or not.

I have used the Video iPod to off-load files from CF cards. I use the Apple Camera Connector ($29) with a CF card reader. The camera connerctor simply converts the iPod base connector to a standard USB female port. It can be slow and run the iPod battery down quickly, but I think the battery will last long enough to download a full 1GB CF card. Unfortunately you can't charge the iPod while the Camera Connector is attached. But I can recharge with the iPod charger plugged into a cigarette lighter inverter or with the combo car charger/FM transmitter.

You will be able to review jpeg files on the iPod screen, but only see Raw file icons. You download the files to your computer from the iPod attached like an external hard drive.

Thanks Craig. I heard about the speed and that is quite fine by me. It would be an end of the day type deal and that would be acceptable to me. I figured as much about the jpg and raw files, but thanks for the confirmation. I have the fm/car charger as well and it keeps it pretty much charged all the time. I wonder how much more battery power the newest generation Ipods have? Now I just need to know if it works with a 5D....anyone?
Thanks

I also used the IPOD as backup for a bit, but the speed and battery life drove me back to using my laptop. The charged IPOD battery will not upload even a 4GB card, so you'll have to use smaller cards. Plus now you can put Lightroom on your laptop.

I use the iPod as an external drive only. I download to my laptop, and then copy from the laptop to the iPod. No battery issues, no CF speed issues, or anything like that. But you need the laptop. I would never delete a CF card before the images are in at least two different places (in my case, the laptop and iPod), so downloading to the iPod alone is simply not an option for me.
