Just got back today from a hut trip in the Sneffels Range. This morning I woke up way too early and skinned up in the dark to the nearest ridgeline to catch the sunrise/moonset. I took a heap of photos, including this one which is a three-photo stitch.

D80, 105mm

Oh, also, check out this shot of sunrise on Sneffels from the same spot: http://www.widerange.org/photo.php?id=708

Absolutely stunning work with the pano and the sunrise shot -- gorgeous lighting. Hopefully there are more where these came from.

Both shots are outstanding, Jack. The subtle colors in the Sneffels shot are beautiful, and the panorama here is breathtaking. As usual, incredible work!

Absolutely stunning. I really need to get back down Southwest sometime.

Awesome shots Jack. I really miss shooting in the San Juans and was just thinking about it. See my post on Silver Jack:wavey:.

I am really looking forward to summer wildflower season. It looks like you have plenty of snow right now. Hopefully that will translate into a great wildflower season .

Jack I really like the one you linked too. :toast:

Thanks for your comments! Derek - yes I saw your post (Tad's photos are awesome) - the San Juans are my favorite mountains and I plan on doing all my backpacking trips here this summer. There's so much to explore! Not sure how our snowpack is doing statistically, but I'd guess it's just about average. The last few weeks of warm weather was causing much premature melting which is no good; hopefully we'll get a few more late season dumps like last week to keep things wet into the summer.

Justn plain awesome shots, Jack. They'll look magnificent enlarged to 4ft x 15ft and 4ft x 5ft respectively.

Hmm, that Sneffels location looks oddly familiar, but with more snow this time. Looks like you were on your way towards your calendar cover shot location, right? Both shots (moonset, Sneffels) are awesome, as to be expected from you..

Looks like you've got some other nice new ones, too. That "Whitehouse Sunrise" with the low cloudbank is right up my alley!

Beautiful - both of them. Hut trip, huh? Sounds great!! Lucky dog...

I think the "Wetterhorn Sunset" is my personal favorite :toast:

That shot is a masterpiece!!!! What timing!

How much hiking/snowshoeing is involved in taking a shot like that? It doesn't look like the kind of thing for the faint of heart.

And I just noticed this summer shot of yours of the Wetterhorn Peak which is to die for:

Jack, wonderful work as usual.

Thanks again for your comments.

Don - These shots weren't large format, unfortunately, so 4ft x 15ft would look pretty blurry!

Todd - Yeah you're right - same ridge. The day before this shot, I hiked up to the same exact spot as the calendar cover shot (to snowboard down from there) and took some photos, but the midday light wasn't so special. It was windy as hell too and funny to think that I had camped there before.

Derek - Thanks! That Wetterhorn shot was taken after a very challenging 6 miles and two nights of snow camping. These latest shots were about 8 easier miles from the trailhead (made more difficult by adding two bottles of wine to my pack  ) For both these trips I was on my splitboard (snowboard that splits into skis for skinning uphill).

Jack, these are very impressive, but that should be obvious at this point. :toast:

Great stuff, Jack!

Killer Jack! I love 'em both. It's not worth shootin' unless you skin up in the dark, right? Glad to see you and and the D80 are gettin' out.

Any chance that you could give a neanderthal a brief overview of your stitching method?

Thanks!

Hi Jack.

Excellent photos, although I like the linked one better. I am sorry I will not be able to make it to your gallery this time. I really wanted to, but things got in the way.
