Hi All- I am considering purchasing a D200. At the present I have a Philips 19" 21dot, monitor, windows XP Professional with 518 Mg ram. I am upgrading camera wise from a Minolta Z2 4 m. Will my present monitor and ram support the D200. I also useing Corol paint shop pro Xi as my editing software which I am very happy with.I know I will have a lot of tech and knowledge gaps to fill in, but I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, says the little engine. Anxiously awaiting your thoughts. About what can I expect?

Yep. I have a D200, a 17" Dell monitor, Windows XP Pro w/ 512megs of RAM and use Paint Shop Pro 9 and RAWShooter Essentials. Not the fastest, most powerful, and most current system and applications out there, but it works just fine with the files from the D200.

The monitor and computer should be okay with the new camera. More RAM wouldn't hurt, but I ran with 512 meg for several years and 50+ meg film scans. Occasionally, something would be slow in Elements, but nothing horrible. The files from the D200 won't be much bigger, if at at.

Paint Shop will have no problems with the files produced, with one possible exception: converting from the raw file produced by camera. Nikon has a convertor and there are lots of third party converters out there. I simply don't know Paint Shop to know if raw conversions are an issue, but once you get the file to something more universal, tiff files coming to mind, pretty much anything will handle it.

Jackie,

RAM is cheap and you might want to consider upgrading your RAM.

I have a D200 that I bought at the beginning of the year and am using it with PS2 and a beta PS3 as well as Nikon Capture NX which has some nice features. The system I run is an Apple Pro Book.

Good luck with your new equipment.

I looked very hard at buying the D200, but when I saw that the D80 uses the same sensor, AF cam, and on and on, I decided to save the money and buy the D80 instead. I put the money I saved into a lens upgrade. I've been using the D80 daily in some of the worst weather the Dakotas can throw at me and it has performed perfectly. The D80 was not a mistake for me. I also love its compact size and slightly lighter weight.
