I shppt a Minolta 5D. Today, out of the blue, it started acting funny (i.e. the preview button acted as though it was always on, and my image would change when I changed f-stops; the view photo button began acting as the menu button, etc). I turned it off, left it alone. Now it won't turn on. The battery is fulley charged. Any IDEAS???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like there might be a new camera in your future. The symptoms you described make me suspect a bad PCB in the camera. With all the changes that have taken place with Konica Minolta in the last two years, I'm not very optimistic about the level of repair service you might receive.
I'm not familiar with Minolta, but it sure sounds like some type of electrical issue to me. I would be looking on the Minolta web site for their nearest service center - I think you'll be needing it. Sorry to hear about the problem.
I've got an extra Nikon film body (F4s) and a Nikon 18-35 lens you can borrow until you get yours fixed if that'll help you out. Just let me know.
I can offer you nothing technical, only sympathy!
Good luck!

Brian,
The only thing I can think of is cleaning the battery contacts with alcohol.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.

My brother had a Minolta and several times it has acted up electrically and each time he removed the batteries and then put them back in and everything reset itself, it was not enough just to turn the power off.
KM 5D and 7D have a wellknown error, in Germany called error 58 or dark frame error. After power on you get a first black or darkblue image (look at your CF card) and the cam stopped working. You can fixed that error in most cases by removing the battery and put them back, but the error will come back some days or weeks later (in most cases if you havent use the cam for longer time). In Germany that error will repaired by Minolta service without charge (also outside the warranty!!). Check the Minolta website for that. But if you have another error you must pay for repair outside the warranty. Hope that helps.
Good luck
Klaus
One thing to try is to remove the battery, and any internal batteries and let the camera run dead. This may take a day or many days. Once the internal memory has lost power it will forget it's internal settings and reset itself.
I have done that with an Olympus E10 that freaked out on me and all the buttons performed the wrong actions.
After a week or so without batteries, It reset itself when the batteries were replaced and has run fine ever since. (4 or 5 years now)
