Shorelark
Taken just after sunrise today. A rare visitor to our island so I was pleased to see it, beautiful looking bird!

500 f/4L IS with 2x AND 1.4x extenders on tripod. iso 400, f/8, 1/125

Thanks for looking.

To me it looks a tad on the soft side Paul but what a stunning bird it is - I just love those ear tufts

I think I might have been tempted not to stack the tcs' - maybe just use the 1.4, taken the extra stops as 1/500th speed and cropped the frame - there again though thats just me :wavey:

Never seen one of these in my life so thanks for sharring Paul :toast:

Regards

Andy

A little soft, but a good shot of a rare visitor. Very nice.

Cracking bird. I expect a bit more USM would sharpen it up nicely.

Never seen one of these, so thanks for posting. I couldn't resist a play with sharpening this - hope you don't mind the repost.

No not at all, thanks. I had given it a fair bit of USM anyway but your extra bit doesn't seemed to have hurt it.

Thanks Andy for the advice on the extenders. Yes the image is soft but I knew what I was going to get using the tc's stacked like that. The shorelark was a fair way off and my plan was to slowly stalk the bird and once getting within range to remove the extenders as nessesary. Unfortunately a dog walker appeared and the bird flew before I could carry out my plan of action  Shame cos the early morning light light was improving by the minute! I may pop down before work tomorrow to see if it's still around.

Thanks.

This was the closest I got, a few seconds before it flew. I shall do a bit of cloning and probably remove that blue plastic in the bg.

*Apologies, I've just realised you're only allowed to post 1 image per day

Congrats on getting closer than I did when we had a pair at Reculver,,, as said a tad soft through the stacked converters, but you got an image that shows of the crests well, plus you have the profile that with a bit of work will clean up nicely.
