Queen wasp on ivy
Have kept an eye on this queen wasp. She has been looking for a suitable nesting site in my fence(double panels so space for nesting in between - don't tell the neighbours!) Managed to take this image yesterday afternoon while she was taking a short rest.

Wow a 50mm, you must have been nose to nose with this I admire your courage! Good shot of a scary beast. Have you tried using fill flash with macro? It can really bring out more detail, but also can be hard work.

Nice shot.

I'm just not keen on the comp :frown: .I can see what you are doing by keeping the leaf in the frame, but IMO that not what is the main subject so the wasp should be more in the frame and not over on the right.Yes if the wasp was looking left then that would be great, but he's not :frown: .

Its cropped so it can be changed anyway :toast:

Hi David

I like this - lots of detail in the wasp and perfect exposure. I see what you were trying to do with the crop (keeping the leaf in) - it would be interesting to see a repost with a comp as suggested by Alan.

Thanks lads for your comments. Herewith a different crop. Image critique can be very subjective - what appeals to one may not to another. Such is life
