I bought this 2 disc CD of bird songs. Before each bird song begins, the narrator will identify the bird. What I want to do is go thru and eliminate the guy's voice before each song begins, so I can use it to call in birds, but I don't know how to do it. I've tried a couple of things, but it's not as easy as I thought.

Josh,
You're going to have to use some type of editing software; e.g., on my Mac I can use garage band.
Good luck,
Carol

Hi Josh,
On my macintosh, I would rip the sounds to MP3 format and then trim them in Quicktime professional. You could buy it for your PC. ($29)
I've used free audio editing software on a PC to do the same thing too, such as Cool Edit. I think my soundcard also came with an editing suite many years ago.

Josh, if you are planning to use the tape at Magee the second weekend of May, you might want to give a second thought to that. There are definately a few birding nutcases there that weekend and you will be promptly yelled at for doing do. Unfortunately, I have seen it happen, both for calls and for setting oranges out for the orioles. (And I should point out that the absolute vast majority of people who will be there are pretty cool.)

Thanks for the comments.
Dan, I wasn't planning on taking it to Magee. Last year there were plenty of others there playing the bird songs to call them in. I didn't think I would need to personally do it.
I am planning on using it on my property.
Have you seen the Birdjam software? www.birdjam.com It does what you want and organizes things into playlists.

You can use a cd ripper to download the "songs" to your computer in mp3 format. Use a program such as this: http://www.download.com/Free-CD-Ripper/3000-2140_4-10396883.html?tag=lst-0-1
Then use program called Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to edit the tracks and cut out the beginning part with the guy talking.
