Shot a very nice sequence with this tiddler of a wood mouse while walking along Watersmeet in North Devon. It was extremely confident and even ran across a pathway while hikers trudged passed. They could see me, but not what I was photographing!
This is the smallest mammal that I have photographed and was really caught between wanting to use my macro and yet still wanting some distance between us. They move so fast it would have been difficult to frame being right on top of it, so I opted for a 300 F2.8 with a 2x converter. I think I chose right.
1DS mkII, 300 F2.8 ISL, 2x TC
1/20th @ F8 (could have shot at F5.6 but really wanted more depth)
550EX and Stofen for a little punch (it was very dreary weather)
Gitzo 1325 and RRS ball head (opened flat out and low)
Like the colour scheme and feeling that you're in its world with the low angle. Good eye contact on top. I would like to remove or clone out the tiny bit of grren moss in the bottom righthand corner for some reason.

Great shot
Agree about the green at the bottom right.Plus it might look cool to crop from the top left corner, in abit.So the mouse is more in the corner to improve the comp.
Like it... you were lucky to have a confiding subject... the 'sepia-ish' palatte is great so I agree about trying to loose the green, also a little bit distracted by the twig rising from its head, you probably have images without so that really is minor...

Hi Elliott,
Very cute, like the comp and the colour palette, although it does look like he's got a horn
Did you have fun at Watersmeet? get any Dippers?
cheers

Cheers for the feedback. Agree with cloning out the little mouse horn. This is a full frame, uncropped shot so plenty of crop options available.
Mark, Watersmeet was staggeringly beautiful. But it was immensely busy as I had totally forgotten about the Easter hols. I saw the dippers on a couple of occasions after the cafe had closed and everyone else had left. No shots though. But I will be back! Thanks for the tips...
