Be gentle on me, today was my very first attempt at wildflowers.
the wind was strong and the light was harsh. I had to make do. Next time I will be up there at sunrise or before while the wind is calm.
This is up Dalles Mountain Road just a little way by the winery!
The view was great!

Darren, very nice. The wind was difficult today, but what a day it was. Beautiful to be out and about. My only suggestion for shooting Balsam Root and Lupine is to not be afraid to snap off the dead blooms. It only takes a minute, and helps to cut down on the distractions.

Darren,
My first thought was of the harsh light. other than that I think it's a good shot. it's tough getting up there for sunrise when you live south of portland like I do. I do think this is a comp to shoot at sunrise.

Erik,
weather co-operating with me, next weekend I will have a sunrise shot of this same area/comp...
I get up at 2am every morning for work so the weekends are no different...and from this location to my house in Battle Ground is exactly 2 hours! I timed it today!
Thanks for the comments. Can you just picture this scene with a sunlit lenticular cloud and a nice alpenglow over the mountain???? WOW

Nice work Darren. I like your vision of the magic hour image...I'll be waiting to see it.

Darren this is great - I have never been in this area before as I live in Washington - if I go up the Dalles Mountain Road will it be easy to find if I have never been there - do I have to go hiking to find these arrowroot and Lupine ? Any advice you can give me I would really appreciate it - Thanks Kevin McNeal
Very nice composition Darren, I agree that your sunrise vision should be great.
I know what you mean w.r.t. weather, I am currently taking a landscape/nature photo class and struggle like crazy to get decent weather + not be at work. I am getting a little tired of shooting Daffodils and Tulips from my yard for all my assignments.
This perspective might be a nice candidate for a GND filter to keep the background snow from blowing out while keeping detail in the foreground flowers (which might be dark at sunrise).
Best regards,
-Brett

Darren,
This is beautiful... We don't see this kind of view and flowers here in the northeast. Without the yellow flowers it would be a pretty image, but with them it's an awesome image. The brightness of the flowers seems to balance the brightness of the distant mountain and my eye bounces back and forth from one to the other, keeping me in the frame. Just beautiful!
Forget the light - the flowers are just awesome :)

Thanks so much for all the comments, I really appreciate them.
I am really hoping the weather is good or at least "not raining" this weekend as I want to get back up here and work the area a little more in better light...
Brent, as you are driving up DMR it wont take you long to figure out where I was....not too far off the highway....
One thing I like about this image is that I the flowers are in Washington and the Mountain is in Oregon and yet the combine well for the image
This is great, Darren. Not too much to be too, too critical of in this comp. You've already gotten great advice and have your own thoughts to fall back on, as well. It's beautiful up there.
