Bob Steele and Garth McElroy have been the NPN avian gallery moderators since August of 2003, and active members since 2002. After a long (and at times gruelling) "tour of moderator duty" they have both decided to take a well-deserved break from the task.
On behalf of the entire NPN community, I would like to thank both of them for helping to make the NPN avian gallery the best there is, and for helping countless members along the way to become better photographers. Thank-you Bob and Garth, and best wishes for continued success!

Bob, Garth....I learned so much from you guys.....you probably don't have a clue how much you guys helped me to become the photographer I am now. Thanks a lot...and don't be a stranger around here!
Hi! I, too, have learned alot from these two about avian photography and the encouraging comments they continuously conveyed. They will surely be missed, at least by me!!! Good luck in your new endeavors!!!
Bob Steele's critiques have been a big factor in my improvement as a photographer. He'll tell you when you nail a shot and tell you when you could have done it better. Thanks Bob!

Dan, you said exactly what I wanted to say. I wouldn't have joined NPN without Bob's encouragement. Bob's tips and advice has vastly improved my photography. Bob always tried to comment on every photo that was posted, not an easy task. Thanks Bob, I hope we'll still be hearing from you frequently!
Thanks Bob and Garth, I just can't imagine what NPN would have been without you. You have both been a very important factor in my development as an avian photographer.
Although critique from Bob and Garth has been most valuable, sometimes these guys don't have to say a thing. They just show you one of their photos. It's very humbling, but at the same time it can shine some light on the path for you. Thanks for all of your hard work and hope to see more of your great photos here.
It's been a pleasure and an honor to serve as moderator for all these years. I didn't come to this decision lightly, but felt that this was the time for me to relieve some of the pressure that comes from the daily responsibility of moderating. The book project I'm currently working on for NGS is going very well and it looks like they want me to do another one soon. In addition, I'll be away for 6 weeks this summer visiting Australia.
I'm not leaving NPN, that's for certain, and plan to hang around my favorite place on the internet for many years to come.
When I first became interested in avian photography and surfed the internet, I came across NPN, as one would quite naturally. I was immediately drawn to Bob's and Garth's images. I thought to myself, "Now, that's a goal to try to reach!" I have not yet reached anywhere near that goal, but through their untiring efforts over the last 4 years, I and many others on NPN have improved greatly. So, a million thanks to both!
In addition, Bob has now become a very good friend and I can truly say that he has most unselfishly taken me along and taught me all I know. For this, I am most grateful.
Those are indeed huge shoes to fill.....

One thing is for sure I will miss you both guys and I know all of NPN will!!! As a lot of people who have joined NPN I have learned a tremendous deal on photography from you two in a relatively short time span! Thanks a lot for that! Wish you both all the best in your upcoming projects and really do hope you visit once in a while! See ya, Krijn
You guys deserve a bigtime thanks for all your work over the years. You made a huge contribution to this site and it will be a tall order to even attempt to replace your input. Enjoy your newfound spare time!
Everyone above has said it so well. I joined NPN after visting Bob's webpage, drooling over his photos, and following his NPN link. His photos of birds are the benchmarks against which I measure my efforts. (He's got nothing to worry about.) And I do love the photo of Garth and his 600mm f/4 on the beach on his webpage. That's the way to shoot! Don't go far away guys. all of us have learned a lot from you two.
