Bee fly feeding on forget-me-not
Hi everyone

Bee flies are everywhere at the moment. I don't think that I've ever seen so many. They're fascinating insects - their larvae are parasites of solitary bee nests and the adults are bee mimics. Body length is about 13mm for scale.

Thanks for looking.

Mark

Nikon D80, Micro Nikkor VR 105mm, Sigma EM-140 macro flash fill-in.

Terrific shot, really the bee knees. To be fussy I'd work on that very light petal and try loose it. How do you find the 105 VR? Is this a handheld shot?

Hi Mark,

A great shot. I agree with Tim about the light petal but a very minor nit on a great shot.

Send some to the Wigan area. I've never seen one in the flesh :frown: Excellent capture. The light petal is only a very minor distraction with a subject like this.
