I'll be visiting Alaska second half of july - first half of august. My primary subject is bears, but while I'm there, I would also like to shoot whales, moose and bald eagles. I will use Homer as a hub and was wondering if I should stay there for a few days for bald eagles. If it's worth staying there, any advice on a good place to stay would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I stayed at the Lands End Hotel 2 years back. The rooms were great, with a great few, and right on the beach. Nice restaurant on site as well.

Eagles visit Homer in lage numbers in the winter. About March/April they begin to scatter as the rivers thaw and fish are easier to catch. Homer is a beautiful place to visit ... but eagle shooting if best in the off season. They can be hit or miss in July, but always cool to see ...

Marsel, as others have suggested the Bald Eagles will have dispersed to breed and raise young while you are in Alaska. By late July, most will have fledged the kids. You may see some residents; there are 3-6 sub-adult birds that usually hang around Homer all summer. You won't find the concentrations until November on the Chilkat River, near Haines. There's a smaller, but more intimate concentration on Kodiak Island in December. But while you are in Homer take one of the charters out to Gull Rock in the middle of Kachemak Bay...

I agree with what others have said, Homer isn’t the place for eagles in the summer. You will find far more in Seward / Kenai Fjords, even from the highway along the Kenai River and Turnagain Arm.
There are a number of flight operators in Homer that offer bear viewing out of Homer – it can be a good departure spot for bears. I wouldn’t go to Homer for eagles, moose or whales. You will find some cow moose in the area but not bulls. There are far better locations in Alaska for those animals.
