I have followed several of the recent threads in this forum regarding the art and science of image critique. It seems that the discussions here have led to the new headers in the image critique forums.
I don't like the change.
I find it an unnecessary intrusion into the thumbnail galleries. To quote an oft used phrase from the critiques, "I find it distracting."
At the top of the form on which I am now typing there is this line:

Couldn't we simply sub out the word topic for the word critique and provide a link to the guidelines?
Am I the only one who finds this distracts from the previously professional appearance of the NPN galleries?
I agree with you, Maureen. It is distracting, and I don't need to be reminded of the rules every time I open a gallery. Maybe if we behave for a while they'll go back to the old way

Hmmmm. Honestly, I've never even noticed it until you mentioned it. Doesn't bother me as is (especially since I didn't even know it was there) .

If it was just a group of "long-time NPN regulars" that used the forums and galleries, I would be in total agreement. However, that is not the case - there is now a constant flow of new participants on this site. In that regard, the "NPN regulars" should feel quite good about this as it is their "standard of excellence" that attracts newcomers in the first place!
Along with new forum participants comes the questions (and behavior) of those who are not used to the way we do things around here. For those reasons, we felt it would be a good idea to have some basic guidelines placed in the header "in plain sight." So it is due to the growing popularity of this site that we display this information, something I think we can all feel a degree of gratification about.
BTW, one of the concepts I would really like to promote in the IC galleries - especially for new participants - is to contact other members via email to ask for their critiques/comments. Nothing will discourage a new participant faster than to not receive any useful comments on their photos. You will notice that this useful suggestion is part of the information included in the header.

I never even noticed it, personally. I've don't have a problem with it, it makes sense to me keep new members informed.

Fine by me, I don't read anything anyway. Sounds like a good idea though like Jim said.
