Hi all I've been using Olympus raw conversion software to do the initial processing on raw files from our E1 and E500 and it covers all the parameters that the camera would cover if it was allowed to produce .jpeg's or .tiff's. It also has fine control over fine tuning the color temerature BUT I don't like the interface. It's too white and the image is too small to work with comfortably.
I'm thinking about taking a serious look at Lightroom but I'm not that familiar with Adobe products. ( I don't use Photo Shop)
Do any of you have any suggestions for a good Raw converting program that will recognize .orf files?
Lightroom is a bit different from other Adobe products. I suspect the interface is really more a result of their Macromedia and Rawshooter acquisitions. It's actually very nice, though may be sluggish if you don't have the horsepower of a modern machine.
Guy, I have an AMD processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 1.5 GB of ram of which Windows XP is recognizing 1.3GB available. I suspect that the 200 MB of ram not accounted for are what XP uses to run itself. This computer is stable and issue free. I have no trouble running Corel PSP on large files in several layers with masks. I do a lot of heavy layering involving full resolution files and composites for large graphic posters for the local car clubs.
Do you think that would be adequate to run Lightroom?
Robert, I would suspect it may slow you down with Lightroom, though whether it will be acceptable to you is a subjective call. There's a sure way to tell though - download the trial version and see how it works with your files. If it doesn't fit the bill, you can just uninstall.
