My son and I are taking a 3-day photography course at Yosemitie in a few weeks. Because I can't aford to miss too much work, we'll probably have to fly there and rent a car. There are several airport choices, all two or more hours from Yosemitie--can someone give me advice as to the easiest place to fly to for the drive to and from Yosemitie?

Thanks, Richard Sogn.

Not much help, all I can tell you is that it is a 3:30-4:00h drive from SFO or Oakland (this one a bit less as it is in the East Bay). Fresno might be a good option and is a 1:45h drive.
No idea about rentals but I'm sure you can check the mayr rental co. web sites to see if they have offices in Fresno.

Richard,

I am researching the same thing. I am leaving from Anchorage and flying in to Fresno from the 17th-23rd. I may take public transportation to the Park or may rent a car. It is a big Park and I would like to see as much of it as possible and also do some high altitude hiking or camping and of course photography. I think that Fresno is only 2 hours away.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks Robert, It looks like Fresno is the way to go. My son and I (and six others) will be there 5/11-13 with Rodney Lough Jr. (www.theloughroad.com) for a photography workshop, although we're tacking on an extra day before and after the workshop. I was last there 50 years ago with my Kodak Brownie camera (I still have the pictures)--now I'm hoping I'm not too old to keep up with the group on the long hikes. I wanted to do the father-son bonding thing while I still can. I look forward to seeing some of your photographs.

if you can get a flight into modesto municipal airport, it's only about 32 miles to the park.

The best airport to fly into is sacramento. From there rent a car ( if you want to save time ) or take public transit. Amtrak has daily service to Yosemite. You don't need any transportation once you are in Yosemite valley this time of the year as the valley shutttle buses take you around pretty much everywhere.Your photography workshop folks might be carpooling. Also this time of the year not all the trails are open but Yosemite is wonderful during spring. Have fun,

I'd go Fresno. Its an hour drive to the south entrance.
