This little chap was roosting on a cowslip stem. The bright orange wing tips are well hidden by the nicely camouflaged underwings.

This is full frame - not sure about cropping it - any ideas welcome!

Great photo. I didn't realise orange tips had such beautiful underwings! I feel that the crop is fine as it is, there is quite a lot of open space to the right, but at the butterfly is looking in that direction it doesn't feel wasted.

Hello Clive

I'm not sure right now on the 'cyan' but the sharpness / background / and comp' all look good to me.

Very nice.

Clive,

Beautiful shot.

I've often looked to roosting butterflies, but never spotted. Any tips?

Hi Rob,

As far as tips on roosting butterflies goes, it's largely a matter of luck. A wander round just before dusk is the best approach, especially in sheltered areas that get the last rays of the sun. A very early morning walk can also be productive with the added bonus of dew!

Good luck,
