Some times it's really disheartening to see what the results of ignorance are. Only seven female Amur Leopards remained in the wild, and now a Russian hunter has killed one. Link to the story is HERE.

I'm not anti-hunting mind you. I've been a hunter all my life, and continue to be, but this story isn't about hunting, it's about ignorance. Very sad and discouraging.

Bill -

I can't access the link.

Here's the correct link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070423/sc_nm/russia_leopard_dc

The killing is just sad. I just hope we don't end up wiping them out.

Hmmm, for some reason I can't get the link to work correctly. Sorry about that, but the story is on Yahoo News.

What's perhaps crazier is that it wasn't killed for any apparent purpose - at least if someone wants the pelt there seems to be a reason (albiet a bad one). But just leaving it there? This seems especially senseless.

Very sad. Not much to say. Mankind sucks. :frown:

At times I really despair!

David, this will be a case of a mindless idiot who cannot, or does not care to, ID the quarry correctly before sighting the gun and pulling the trigger. - this is why hunters should carry binos.

Taking the pelt would have been a evidence of who to blame - I have no doubt that this is a protected species in Russia.

PS I am a hunter.

My hear breaks when I read things like this. I can only hope that those of us with sense and compassion outnumber idiots like that hunter and someday common sense kicks in everywhere.

I'm a dreamer,

I didn't know these existed until I saw Planet Earth. Somehow knowing there's one less makes me wish I never found out.

Very sad. I despair about mankind sometimes, and have to remember the GOOD things.
