Cool Memory of Winter
Yep, another Hood image

I've been looking at this one for a while, but I couldn't decide what to do with it. I think taking a break for a while helped me appreciate it. I remember this moment vividly, the sweet light was done, but the mountain was still putting on quite a show. I came back across this scene, I just loved this stand of trees almost falling over from the weight of the 5 ft of snow the area received in just a few short days. They reminded me of monks worshiping the mountian, so I joined them in the appreciation. After this morning meditation, I was joined by quite a few skiers who had the time of their life ripping up the slopes, an epic day for all.

For the processing, I decided to desaturate this image quite a bit, the contrast work was oversaturating the image.

5D
17-40L + 2 stop soft ND

Zack, I always love the detail in your images. nice work as always. A dramatic, out-of-this-world sky is not always necessary to make a beautiful image.

I'd brighten the sky a bit and enhance the blues overall. Striking image, just like all of yours from that trip.

It can not possibly be overstated, how rare these conditions are. To have this much snow on the trees that hasn't been knocked off by wind or melted by sun, at this time of year, with great clouds - and at sunrise no less (from your other images) is something that is surprisingly uncommon and usually takes an extremely dedicated effort on the part of the photographer to capture it.

Striking really sums this up... I can feel the cold creeping in my bones as I view this... :toast:

Zach, great image, really love the snow drapped trees, and the sky, is wow. Just a little lighter towards to the top edge. Excellent shot.

Well worth the effort it must have taken to get to this spot.

I absolutely loved these set of images from this trip you made ! I was talking with John L. and I was trying to shoot the Dalles arrowroot with you guys but I had to do something else last weekend. I am up here in Washington and trying to shoot more down your way. I was wondering if you ever want to drop me an email so I could meet up with you guys to shoot. I have trouble finding the areas to shoot because I not very familiar with the area and would love to shoot with you guys - kevinmcneal30@hotmail.com
