Another one from the same shoot as the Avocet - the light was a bit gloomy and when the sun did show a bit I was shooting straight into it from the main hide when these two godies started!
Didn't want to push the iso past 250 as my D200 gets a bit noisy after that so I was stuck with 1/500th at f8 - not fast enough to stop all the motion, but I was still fairly pleased - or am I just deluded???!!!
Techs
D200
Sig 500 f4.5
ISO 250
Manual 1/500th @ f11 + 1EV
Shame the light wasn't more in your favour, but still a fine behavioral image to have witnessed and captured. The slight movement in the wing tips certainly adds to the images appeal,IMHO.Nicely captured.

Andy,
I think the movement on the wings adds to the feeling of action, image is not frozen but rather imparts a certain sense of movement and drama. Nice.
I find my d200 starts to get noisy in the blacks from 400 upwards but still generally useable as long as I dont have to crop too tightly and have not underexposed. I have mine set with zero NR to maintain as much detail as possible and only apply NR in Capture NX if necessary. My D50 handled noise much better for a third of the price

Thanks for the feedback guys
There's nothing wrong with my D200 that a switch to Canon won't fix
