King of the Post 2
Joe's very fine image of a California quail along with the title "King of the Post" made me think of this redtail I caught a couple of months ago near Klamath Falls. As common as redtails are, I find them quite skittish so I was thrilled when this bird let me get really close.
Canon 10D, 1-400mm IS, out of car window, full frame.

I bet this guy would like to get its talons on that Quail. Is the focus a little more on the post here, Dan? I can't tell at this web resolution, but it seem just a tad soft. Great isolation of the subject in favorable light too.

The background works for your subject too.....it was really obliging of him or her to find a post with no visual distractions in the background. Good work!

Nice shot Dan, though I agree with Marc that's it looks a little bit soft. I've been wanting to get a redtail shot someday, but limited to a 200mm lens, they never seem close enough. Glad this guy cooperated for you. If our two "Kings" were to meet, there would only be one king of the post and it wouldn't be my quail!

I guess I see what you mean about the post being a bit sharper than the bird. I think I probably picked the wrong image out of about twenty I fired off. It could also have something to do with the fact that I am so lazy about photoshop and sharpening. Thanks for the comments.
