Day off last week, supposed to be gardening but got distracted by this little fella trying his luck.

It's so easy to be distracted at the moment when gardening, and I can see why by this shot.
The male has to approach very carefully to avoid being eaten. I hope this is just the first in a series entitled 'Did they or didn't they?' Very well observed and good focus on their eyes.
Excellent behavioural macro shot and I really like the way the center of the image is kind of spotlit.
The warm tones of the wood add lots of appeal to the overall image too.

Hi Paul,
I really like this image, the lighting is very natural, and it's not often you get to capture this bit of behaviour. Did you get any photos of the actual mating?
Dan.

Thanks for the comments, unfortunately didn't get any mating shots ( had to fetch son from nursery) so don't know how things ended.
It was late afternoon so nice sunlight through the branches of some shrub I crushed as I tried to get in position without disturbing the happy couple.
