From another polish forest this, to me, unusual woodpecker.
This is the female bird (pic of male to follow).
Our guide managed to attract them by 'simply' calling them with the woodpecker's yaffel. His (guide!) craftmanship was/is superb, he saw and heard everything from miles away.
Again, pic done on laptop..so colours etc may be a bit out, but do please feel free to mention anything of course!

Never seen one of these before. Very cool shot Paula Maybe a tad oversharpened, but I'm viewing on a poor work monitor,so it may not be

You certainly saw some great birds in Poland - Nice shot I'm not too certain about your composition, as the bird appears to be looking up slightly, I would have preferred a little more room above - but that is minor!
Interesting birds you're showing us Paula, are they people friendly or are you using hides? Seems you're achieving impressive shots with the 400 focal length.
Nice one

Lovely bird, which i was lucky to see and photograph in Finland. I like the pose but i find the image a bit too contrasy and it is a bit oversharpened.

Hi Paula - stunning bird and lovely feather detail. Contrast and sharpening nits already covered and like David I'd like it even more with some room at the top.

Mnor nit -I would cut back the sharpening a tad as a halo is appearing around the head.
