Deep in the Gorge...with repost!
Just trying some things tonight in Photoshop now that I have the RAW Plugin....

This is below a much larger waterfall deep in the Gorge off trail.

One other thing I have been told is that some of my images look highly compressed...I changed the ppi to 72 from 300 so I am not sure if that will help or not....let me know if this looks compressed to you..

thanks for leaving a comment!

Not sure what you mean by compressed, but it a) looks a little soft and b) the greens are off a tad. However, I really like your comp here.

I agree with Rick that this could be a little sharper. The greens look good on my monitor. Nice comp.

I too agree with Rick. The compo here is really good. The greens need little brightening.

Darren, I'd like to see you take some artistic liberties with this one and try a bit of dodge/burn and brightening of the greens overall to really make this pop, enhancing the background features. When working with the very early light in an area like this, sometimes images can be rendered a little too flat without further adjustment. I like the composition with the possible exception of a little brushiness in the ULC. Have you tried my web sharpen technique?
I hope you don't mind, but I spent a minute or two working this one to better demonstrate what I'm talking about.

I had no problems with your original post, till I saw Marc's version. "Pops" a little more. I may have to take a closer look at Marc's sharpening technique.

Definitely a nice shot. I would like to see a greater focus on those trees that are catching my eye above the falls. The LHS of the frame doesn't provide as large of a contribution as the rest of the frame. imo. Did you attempt a vertical orientation for this area?

Marc, thanks for working this and reposting it...I see what you mean but I have no idea how you did it....I can only do basic edit work....I really need to take a photoshop class...

yes I am very familiar with your sharpening technique and some images I get great results and others not so good....not sure why.....

I plan on hitting this spot again soon as I was not too happy with what I got out of here...but now that I know the area a little better I might actually spend a nice overcast day down there and play with the light as it comes and goes....

It was great shooting with you and Ned too..... :toast:
