Great Crested Grebe Portrait
Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus)
This is an image I took a couple of weekends ago at a local nature reserve. It is a pretty severe crop of the original because the grebes wouldn't come any closer :( and I wanted to see if I could "rescue" a reasonable image out of it. Does the positioning work? Comments are, as always, welcome. The technical details are:

- Camera: Canon EOS 1D Mk IIN
- Lens: Canon 500mm f4 IS + 1.4x
- Aperture: f7.1 -2/3
- Shutter Speed: 1/400s
- ISO: 400
- Metering: Evaluative
- Exposure Control: Aperture Priority
- Camera Support: Gitzo 1325 + Wimberley Gimbal
- RAW Conversion: RawShooter Premium
- Post Processing: Levels, Curves, USM (FocalBlade)

Thanks for looking
Adrian

Hi Adrian

I love the lighting in this image. As for your comment re the composition, yes I think it works quite well and would also work OK cropped to a portrait format. I would be tempted to cloan out whatever is floating in the water centre/right but otherwise very nice!

Ahhh well another skill to learn I suppose

Nice shot, especially considering the distance involved. You could use the 'patch' tool perhaps to get ridd of the spots and bit and pieces floating on the water.
