Went bushwhacking in a fairly well explored creek above a major waterfall last week. Didn't find anything very interesting so on the way back I took a perfectly placed log bridge to this vantage point. Very happy I downgraded with this Canon Pro1 as I could have never achieved this perspective with the SLR, I would have had to have leaned out way too far in order to see the viewfinder. Here, I held the tripod out over the ledge, and tilted the LCD screen towards me, moving the tripod until I had the basic idea. Still a tad chilling, but it wouldn't have been enjoyable otherwise.
Not sure if this works as a photo, but Marc's "looking down" post motivated me to post it. Your views are appeciated.
I like it. Maybe bring up the brightness in the top part of the waterfall, it looks a little too muted. I've still got my Pro 1 chilling in my closet. Gotta go break that thing in. I think I've taken maybe 20 pictures with it.
In only the last week I've had it I have found it an excellent tool. The built in ND8 filter is really convinient, and the tilting and swiveling LCD sceen is making my life far easier as I almost always shoot without ever extending the tripod legs, no more complaining back. There are ofcourse downsides in image quality. Lots of noise and it is very difficult to pull detail out of the shadows.
I must admit the shot is not working for me. And it's really the foreground clutter and motion that's doing it. Otherwise, I like the perspective, but not as much as your top of Ponytail shot.
I hope you guys are really being careful when you step out onto these places. I've spent a lot of my life close to big time drop offs and although it might not look like it, there are a lot of things I look at and think about before I get close to an edge. I check the wind, I check the quality of the edge, I look to see if it's wet, mossy, grassy, dirty, all sorts of things. People die because of stupid things.
Go to the edge, live life, but don't let your ego be your guide.

I have to agree with Marc's comments. I think there is too many sticks, logs and dead grass which creats a little chaos. I do like yor process of capturing the shot.
Thank you all for the comments, and don't worry too much Mark, I still get the jitters when I get close to a ledge like this, enough to keep me pretty far back from it. I was actually sitting with my butt nice and planted on flat basalt when I took this.
