I now shoot a Nikon D70 and love it...

however, I am not getting the image resolution I am happy with anymore and I am thinking of upgrading my camera body. I have always been a Nikon User and have full 100 percent faith in their products.

with new technology coming out so fast now and prices going down. I am thinking of switching bodies away from Nikon.....

does anyone have any landscape/nature experience with either the sigma or Fuji that they would care to share for the rest of us....

I do everything in my power not to shoot weddings or portraits for my own personal reason and I will be using the camera for scenics and landscape work 99.9 percent of the time.....

thanks in advance!!!

Why not a D200? The S5 uses the same body but has lower actual resolution, 6MP, if I recall correctly. The advantage of Fuji`s sensor technology is extended dynamic range. Switching to Sigma sounds unwise - you would have to exchange all your lenses and other system specific components. The benefits are probably incremental, hardly worth the cost and hassle. I don`t have first hand experience but the D200 is widely regarded as a great camera and definitely a good step above your current body.

BTW, the Fuji SuperCCD and Foveon (Sigma) technologies are often a source of confusion. The former uses 2 photodiodes to produce one pixel (to extend DR) and the latter uses 3 overlaying photodiodes per pixel (one for each of RGB colours). Thus the S5 is advertised as 12MP but actually delivers 6M actual (not interpolated) pixels. Similarly, the "14MP" SD14 delivers 4.6MP files. In Sigma`s case, the pixel resolution is not directly comparable to Bayer array sensors (such as the one in your D70). I`d guess that a good file from the SD14 could print visibly better than the same thing from D70 but not from a D200.

Exactly what Ott said. Don't get tricked into thinking you're getting higher resolution files with Sigma or Fuji, allthough these bodies do have some assets. Get a D200, or even a D80. No contest IMO. Those bodies will deliver the most bang for your buck by far.

Thanks, after doing some research later, I found out exactly what Ott mentioned...

I am going with a D200 or if Nikon comes out with something else before the end of the year I may hold off for that.....only time will tell...

I am seeing used D2x's for sale at around 2900-3200 bucks....just wonder if its worth it?? that camera really has a lot of features I would never use!...I like simple!

Thanks guys!
