As promised this is the Male Grey Headed woodpecker taken from a hide in a polish forest. They are quite common in Eastern Europe.
My guide with his knowledge and ability to produce many bird sounds, just called him with the yaffle and the bird answered and appeared soon after. I must add that some fat was smeared on this pine tree.
I am not sure if he is not too large in the frame and I held back a bit from the sharpning, but still difficult to judge on laptop.
Herewith repost with a little more sharpning.
Rene, I was invited on a private trip with Polish photographers one of which I had already met on an earlier, organised trip. This chap organised a friend photographer who spoke a little German to act as a guide for me.
Poland, as you know is a very large, unspoiled country but it is difficult to know where to go and few people speak English or German. It is a wildlife paradise but there is not much of an infra structure in the form of hides and the abundant wildlife is quite shy as there is a lot of hunting. One does need a guide who, ideally, whould set up some hides well beforehand.
