Ouachita Waterfalls

The waterfalls across the state are running, although most of them are not at full tilt. The rains have been spotty this week, but with the ground saturated we have some good flow - should be a good weekend to get out and do some shooting.

I spent yesterday down in the Ouachitas chasing waterfalls and found a couple of good ones. The water levels were only moderate, but I found some waterfalls to be even more beautiful at this lower flow than they are when I normally shoot. This is one example above. I've shot it a dozen times when the width of the falls was four or five times wider, but I like this flow rate the best. That is the case with many waterfalls (and something I tell my bride all the time) - biggest is not always the best! (except when it comes to megapixels, of course) On the other hand when I got to what turned out to be the second tallest waterfall in the Ouachitas (34 feet), it was a dud and was only a trickle...

Hope everyone gets a chance to get out and find a few falls in the coming days...

Nice one as usual Tim. If it is not raining tomorrow I intend to go up to Bennett Springs and scout around a bit.

NOT raining? How could you think such a thing! I'm headed over towards northcentral Arkansas today and tomorrow in search of more falls.

By the way, I just got a note from a lady in the forestry commission down in the Ouachitas and she said they have already had five inches of rain this week - the landscape sure did suck up all that water in a hurry - some of the waterfalls I found yesterday were just trickles...

I just left a location about 7 miles away as the crow flies. It was raining a downpour there, now where I am it has hardly been raining. May be where she read the rain guage vs. where you were?
