I am having trouble with this one. The best I can tell this is a yellow phase of a red trillium. I almost always use Newcomb's Wildflower Guide, but there is just a brief mention of the yellow version. Is there anyone that knows more about this version that can say for sure that is what I have. This is the first one I have ever found around here or anywhere for that matter.
Not sure about that. I confused the Sweet White Trillium (which this looks like except its a little yellower...) with the Wake Robin, so I don't know. Will be interested to see if anyone else knows.
Here is a wake robin (red) from a few days earlier. The only difference I can tell is the yellow one has just a little shorter flower stalk...not sure if that is enough of a difference though.
The wake robin (Trillium erectum) can be dark red, pale yellow or white. Here's a link to the "wildflowers of North Carolina" web page with a photo: http://ncnatural.com/wildflwr/terectum.html. I've even seen some that were closer to green.
Thats a very interesting, of all the wake robin's I have ever seen around these parts, I have never found one that was not like the red one above. I guess I need to get out more !!
