Hi folks,

Quite a while ago I reported on the great new features to be incorporated into PicturesToExe. As many of you may know, PicturesToExe (PTE) has long been a favoirte of many photographers for it's powerful, yet simple to use interface and especially for its superior image quality.

Finally, version 5 is nearing completion. It's in late beta now (beta 11a) with only beta 12 to go before a release candidate for version 5. The developers estimate version 5 release will be in about one month from now.

As a beta tester, I've had the pleasure of seeing this product develop into what I believe is the finest tool available for the photographer to demonstrate fine images for an audience. As a long time beta tester for several great presentation slideshow products, I've not seen anything to compare with this one.

The price is "extremely" low and the power in image quality and also now in animation capability is unrivaled for still slides manipulation. The price will go up once version 5 is released and anyone who buys it before the release will get a free upgrade so if you were considering a presentation slideshow product you may want to have a look at this one now.

Guy, a while back I believe you were asking about manual control over the slide show and I reported that PTE had always had a navigation bar feature where you could control this for presentations. I'm happy to report that as of now this is available with the beta 11A which is available to all registered users. Not only are the manual features available, but it's very easy to program your own menu so you can not only go forward and backward or jump to slide one, etc., but you can pop up a menu from any slide to allow you to jump to any other slide.

I've prepared a couple little zipped executable samples for anyone interested. in the first, you see some of the possible features. Many of these may not be of overwhelming interest to the photographer but they are there if you need them. Things like parent/child relationships allowing some pretty unusual animations (XY & Z axis rotation, off-center rotation, complete opacity control, etc.).

The second demo is a very simple one showing one of a number of navigation bar possibilities as well as a pop-up menu to allow jumping to any slide. As the slides start you will see no navigation bar. Move your mouse and it will appear. Stop moving the mouse and in three seconds it will disappear. Left click the mouse anywhere in the upper one third of any image and a menu will appear allowing you to click on a button and immediately jump to any slide.

Ive only included four slides plus the menu and this is just a simple little demo - no pretense of a quality slideshow. But you can see how things work.

Thanks for the update, Lin. I've used PicturesToExe for the past year and agree it is rich with features, yet simple to use. I'm looking forward to version 5.
